I usually drink a beer in the evening. During the week I want a beer that's good quality, reliable, cheap and not too strong.
Easy then there must be loads of beers like that!
No actually there are very few. A range of only three, in fact, that I buy on a regular basis. Banks Original, Thwaites Dark Mild and Cains Dark Mild. Of these three the Banksbeer is a little thin and the Thwaites a little one dimensional. So that just leaves the Cains Dark Mild, an excellent beer but I'd like a few more as good for variety.
Oh yes, and they all come in cans.

I'm quite partial to cain's raisin beer.
I've seen Thwaites Dark Mild available in Morrisons (very cheap, just over £3 for a 4 pack) and Banks is everywhere but not stumbled upon Cains Dark before. Do any of the major retailers sell it nationwide or is it just available oop north?
The raisin beer is dirty in my experience! (I do wonder about your palate sometimes, Paul)
I bought the Cains in my local coop in Cambridgeshire. It used to be more widely available than it is now, Thwaites seems to be taking over. Four cans are usually under £3.
I didn't like the raisin beer much, grape and grain together is just wrong. I'd like to try the Cains Lager though.
